چکیده

The paper discusses a series of four user-oriented design analysis problems in a research prototype multimodal spoken language dialogue system for supporting drivers whilst driving. The problems are: (a) when should the system (not) listen to the speech and non-speech acoustics in the car; (b) how to use the in-car display in conjunction with spoken driver-system dialogue; (c) how to identify the present driver as a basis for building a user model of the driver; and (d) how to create useful adaptive user modelling of the driver. The system discussed is under development and is called VICO or Virtual Intelligent CO-driver.

Enhancing the Usability of Multimodal Virtual Co- drivers

This chapter discusses a series of four user-oriented design analysis problems in a research prototype multimodal spoken language dialogue system for supporting drivers whilst driving. The problems are: (a) when should the system (not) listen to the speech and non-speech acoustics in the car; (b) how to make use of the in-car display in conjunction with spoken driver-system dialogue; (c) how to...

Assessment of driver’s distraction using perceptual evaluations, self assessments and multimodal feature analysis

Developing feedback systems that can detect the attention level of the driver can play a key role in preventing accidents by alerting the driver about possible hazardous situations. Monitoring driver’s distraction is an important research problem, especially with new forms of technology that are made available to drivers, which can interfere with the primary driving task. An important question ...

Investigating the Effect of Package Parameters on Driver Comfort Using the DOE Method and the DHM Ergonomics Analysis Tool

Background and Objectives: Due to the necessity of the proper driver packaging, setting parameters for the driver to achieve the highest ergonomics of the driver has a great importance. The range of variations in some parameters of the package is wide, and the correct selection of the packaging parameters until to achieve driver’s ergonomics position, requires some tests. Methods: In this stud...

Game Theoretic Modelling of a Human Driver’s Steering Interaction with Vehicle Active Steering Collision Avoidance System

Development of vehicle active steering collision avoidance systems calls for mathematical models capable of predicting a human driver’s response so as to reduce the cost involved in field tests whilst accelerate product development. This article provides a discussion on the paradigms that may be used for modelling a driver’s steering interaction with vehicle collision avoidance control in path-...
